Fiction Plane may be called ‘the band that never sleeps’. When not writing, in the studio, or doing session work individually, the band can always be found out on the road, performing at amazing massive concert events and intimate clubs alike. Fiction Plane is nothing if not committed to making sure their music is heard.

This summer is no different. Already on the books are dates with such renowned and diverse acts as The Killers, Bruce Springsteen, Chickenfoot, Tesla, Jeff Beck, The New York Dolls, Beth Hart, and Morcheeba!

Fiction Plane has just announced two more special performances to add into the mix.

On July 10, they will be performing an intimate acoustic headline performance at The Klimt Bar in La Baule, France. And on July 13, Fiction Plane is scheduled to perform at Neumünster Abbey in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, in direct support of bluesy songbird Joss Stone.

Says Pete Wilhoit (who was recently voted one of the top ‘Up-And-Coming Drummers’ in the 2009 Modern Drummer Magazine Reader’s Poll) of Fiction Plane’s summer activities, “The band is gearing up for all the upcoming summer fun! We enjoy the festival season, and this one is going to quite special. We are looking forward to sharing the stage with some amazing artists such as The Killers, guitar legend Jeff Beck, Joss Stone, and of course Bruce Springsteen. The currently untitled album is slated for a September / October release. Fiction Plane is also booking tour dates that will take them through the fall.

Fiction Plane drummer Pete Wilhoit voted into Modern Drummer 2009 Readers Poll!!

Just received this from Shark Attack Media:

For Immediate Release:

Fiction Plane drummer Pete Wilhoit voted into Modern Drummer 2009 Readers Poll winners list!

You heard correctly! Thanks in no small part to the devotion of Fiction Plane’s fan base, drummer Pete Wilhoit has been nominated the #3 Best Up and Coming Drummer, which is featured in the July 2009 issue of Modern Drummer Magazine (on stands now). Although the first and second spots are held by Flynnville Station’s Tommy Bales and Chris Cornell’s drummer Jason Sutter, Wilhoit charted ahead of literally thousands of drummers across the country, who were in contention for this list.

Pete enthusiastically admits, "It's a real honor to have been voted onto Modern Drummer's 2009 Reader's Poll. It's a privilege to be mentioned alongside so many amazing drummers.”

In addition to being listed in the poll, images of Wilhoit in action are prominently displayed throughout the magazine, in the respective Tama and Sabian equipment full-page advertisements. He continues, “I got a special kick out of being pictured in the Tama ad alongside my longtime teacher and hero Kenny Aronoff. I think he's graced the pages of every Modern Drummer issue I've ever read, so it's nice to be recognized with such a legend! I received a congratulatory phone call from my other longtime teacher and hero Shawn Pelton. I could almost see the grin through the phone as he utter the phrase, ‘I'm so f***ing proud, dig it,’ like a proud dad.”

As mentioned in the opening statement, without the resilience and hardcore voting by Fiction Plane’s fans, this honor would have been incredibly difficult to achieve. And Pete would like to make a special acknowledgement of that fact, “A super special ‘THANK YOU’ to all the Fiction Plane fans that voted for me. I certainly couldn't have done it without you!"

FICTION PLANE Mixing New Album This Week!

Fresh news from the Fiction Plane camp!!!

The band is currently logging time at RAK Recording Studios in London mixing its yet-untitled third full length release, once again under the capable supervision of producer Paul Corkett. Says drummer Pete Wilhoit on working with Corkett: “It's been amazing working with Paul again. He's the perfect combination of old school and new school. He knows his s*** and loves to explore sonically. He's so dedicated to the project, and always finding new ways to improve the music. No one works harder! He won't stop until its right and he goes on virtually no sleep and very little food. It's been a joy working with him again."

The band has recorded 14 songs for contention for the album, which Wilhoit says, “has real depth to it; a lot of layers. We've hit some new soundscapes for this trio - it's really exciting to hear."

Vocalist/bassist Joe Sumner offers his unique spin on how the album is shaping up: “We've carried Stonehenge-sized chunks of brightly colored magic soap back and forth across the Atlantic using only spindly twiggy rafts built out of old guitars. The ocean dehydration sent us all a little bit loopy and when we got to the studio, we forgot to scrape all the creativity off the soap and it left the tape sopping wet with the stuff. You know when soap looks and smells good enough to eat? That's what this record sounds like. Just don't eat it. It's made of plastic.”

The album is tentatively slated for a September/October release and Fiction Plane is looking to tour through the fall.

In related news, a new festival date has emerged for the band. On August 22, Fiction Plane will be performing at the Maré de Agosto Festival on Santa Maria Island in Azures, Portugal. More information about the festival can be found at www.maredeagosto.com.

The current summer festival lineup for the band includes:

June 26 - Les Festiv'ete Musicales in Les Moutiers Sous Chantemerle, FRANCE
July 2 - Musiques en Stock Festival in Cluses, FRANCE
July 9 - Les Enfants du Rock in Nice, FRANCE
July 11 - Festival des Terres Blanches in Guérande, FRANCE
July 12 - Bospop in Weert, NETHERLANDS
July 16 - Les Vielles Charrues Festival in Carhaix, FRANCE
July 26 - Rock en Nord in Nieppe, FRANCE
August 22 - Maré de Agosto Festival on Santa Maria Island in Azures, PORTUGAL

FICTION PLANE Manager offers news of new album

The Dutch website LiveXS recently spoke with FICTION PLANE manager Daniel Regan about his excitement for the new FP album, as well as giving a little bump for the upcoming Bospop Festival.

Here is the link for the story.

The translated text (courtesy of Babelfish) reads as follows:

The British band Fiction Plane is now working hard to tweak the new album. "On July 12 the trio the band will definitely play some new songs at the 2009 Bospop in Weert," says a very enthusiastic manager Daniel Regan.

This autumn the third studio album will be released, and the band is currently working hard on the songs, which include working titles like Telephone Unknown, Humanoid, Zero, Denied, Contagious and others. The Dutch manager Daniel Regan spent a day in the studio last with Fiction Plane and told LiveXS that he could already tell that "the new CD is much more varied than Left Side. There are 5 or 6 potential singles on it".

Last year the trio had a mega-hit with Two Sisters (from the second album Left Side Of The Brain) and gave Joe, Seton and Pete a global tour in support of The Police, giving them an opportunity to play for more than a million people worldwide.

We just posted a brand new FICTION PLANE press bio over at www.fictionplane.info, which talks about the Paradiso album and a bit about the new recordings.

Fiction Plane's PARADISO Now Available on iTunes!

This just in from Shark Attack Media:

For Immediate Release:

Fiction Plane’s PARADISO Live Album Now Available on iTunes!

Previously Unavailable Music Also Available for Download

Fiction Plane fans rejoice! The band’s recent live album PARADISO, which had previously only been available in Europe, is now accessible via iTunes!

That’s correct; you can download the audio content to Fiction Plane’s most exciting live performance, regardless of territory. Simply click on this link, and you can have access to the full 14-song set!

The tracklisting for PARADISO includes:

1) Death Machine
2) Presuppose
3) Running the Country
4) It's a Lie
5) Left Side of the Brain
6) Put on Your Shoes
7) Sadr City Blues
8) Drink
9) Anyone
10) Cut the Brake
11) Hate
12) Cross the Line
13) Cigarette
14) Two Sisters

Recorded on December 7, 2008 at the band’s sold-out performance in Amsterdam at the renowned Paradiso, the threesome of Joe Sumner, Seton Daunt, and Pete Wilhoit were captured in top form. Known for their highly animated and energetic live performances, PARADISO is the purest representation of Fiction Plane outside of an actual live show. As Sumner attests, “I’ve never liked live albums that were faked,” says Sumner. “When we play live, it is not a recital of our live recordings. We do everything we can to put on the best show for the crowd every night.”

A video clip for “It’s A Lie” from PARADISO is viewable below.

In related news, on April 7, two additional Fiction Plane rarities will become available for download. Amazon.com and iTunes will be releasing the full 13-minute version of “Put On Your Shoes” (which was previously only available as a Japanese bonus track on 2007’s LEFT SIDE OF THE BRAIN album), and a brand new acoustic version of the fan-favorite song, “Anyone”.

Already available on iTunes outside of America, this new, enchanting rendition of “Anyone” was recorded in Bloomington, IN (the hometown of Fiction Plane drummer Pete Wilhoit) just prior to the band’s final US headline performance of 2008 at The Bluebird. Recorded with two guitars, drums, and an antique organ, the band created a very minimalistic but heavily emotional version of the song. Fiction Plane recorded “Anyone” with producer/engineer Dave Weber (who had worked with Wilhoit on releases prior to joining Fiction Plane) and mixer Ash Howes (Kylie Minogue, James Morrison, Eurythmics).

Photos from the recording sessions are available at guitarist Seton Daunt’s official website.

Fiction Plane is currently in the studio recording its brand new full-length album for release later this year. Upcoming tour dates include:

June 26 - Les Festiv'ete Musicales in Les Moutiers Sous Chantemerle, FRANCE
July 2 - Musiques en Stock Festival in Cluses, FRANCE

FICTION PLANE Offers Post-New York Impressions and a Glimpse of the Future

This just in from Shark Attack Media:

For Immediate Release:

FICTION PLANE Offers Post-New York Impressions and a Glimpse of the Future

Hot off of playing to a packed house at Arlene’s Grocery in New York City last Friday, the members of Fiction Plane are still buzzing!

Drummer Pete Wilhoit expresses his excitement, “Such a cool way to debut new songs - in NYC in front of die-hard fans and friends at a great local venue. It sounded like people loved it. I know we did!”

The fans concur. One enthusiastic fan says, “Oh my God, the show was sooo good!” Another emotes, “I was so glad I decided to come! That show did not disappoint! The new songs were great!”

The band played a nine-song set featuring five brand new songs and four Fiction Plane classics. The new material, which is still in its demo phase, already runs the gamut of emotions, as well as Fiction Plane’s patented genre-bending skills. Wilhoit says, “I'm looking forward to this album. It's got a real disco-Radiohead-Rage-Eels-thing going on so far."

Guitarist Seton Daunt also expresses his appreciation to the reception of the material, “It was great to see people moving to the new songs. I can't wait to get into the studio and record them!"

And ever the enigmatic front man, bassist/vocalist Joe Sumner displays his gratitude in a matter in which only he can articulate. “Ah, the pleasure of releasing our embryonic tunes into the wild and have them flourish in a nutrient rich swamp of singularly open-minded listeners is such that I felt the need to go home with a belly full of beer and crank out a bunch more. So it shall transpire that these fresh blossoms will beget fresher seeds and engender a new era of loopy-juice based creativity that sashays to and fro between the twin sentinels of noise-maker and listener.”

As previously reported, Fiction Plane is writing and recording their next studio album, which is slated for release later in the year. In the meantime, the band’s first-ever live DVD/CD PARADISO will be released on March 23.

The band is already booking summer festival appearances, with the following dates already confirmed:
July 11 - Festival des Terres Blanches in Guérande, FRANCE

FICTION PLANE Unveils Live DVD/CD Combo PARADISO on March 23

For Immediate Release:

FICTION PLANE Unveils Live DVD/CD Combo PARADISO on March 23

Power rock trio Fiction Plane is back! On March 23, the band releases its first-ever live DVD and CD package, simply entitled PARADISO, through XIII Bis Records.

“I’ve never liked live albums that were faked,” says Sumner. “When we play live, it is not a recital of our live recordings. We do everything we can to put on the best show for the crowd every night.”

XIII Bis CEO Mehdi El Jai concurs, “Thanks to the band and the tremendous audience, we've got here one of those perfect moments, when a band is touching the essence of rock.”

PARADISO is offered in three packages. One set consists of a DTS Sound DVD of the show and two CDs featuring the entire audio performance. Special features on the DVD include the unedited version of the “It’s A Lie” video (directed by Sumner’s brother Jake), and a photo gallery comprised of images taken along the band’s touring journey. The DVD will also be available separately, as will a limited edition Blu-Ray disc.

The tracklisting for the performance includes:

1) Death Machine
2) Presuppose
3) Running the Country
4) It's a Lie
5) Left Side of the Brain
6) Put on Your Shoes
7) Sadr City Blues
8) Drink
9) Anyone
10) Cut the Brake
11) Hate
12) Cross the Line
13) Cigarette
14) Two Sisters

The DVD/CD set was mixed by Ash Howes (Kylie Minogue, James Morrison, Eurythmics) and mastered by Andy Walters (U2, The Cure, Radiohead) at Abbey Road. The cover art is once again contributed by Alex Lake, who, in addition for supplying the artwork for Fiction Plane’s two previous releases LEFT SIDE OF THE BRAIN and 2005’s BITTER FORCES AND LAME RACE HORSES, has also worked with Keane, Rufus Wainwright, and Amy Winehouse.

PARADISO closes the chapter on two years of rampant Fiction Plane activity, supporting the Bieler Bros. Records release LEFT SIDE OF THE BRAIN, which was also released by XIII Bis in 2008 as a special edition featuring five bonus tracks. In 2007 and early 2008, the band toured around the globe in arenas as the openers for The Police’s 30th Anniversary Reunion tour and headlining clubs. Fiction Plane spent last year at nearly every major European festival, and on jaunts with The Feeling and The Bravery, culminating in a massive summer run as part of The Unity Tour with 311 and Snoop Dogg.

Many bands treat live DVD releases like a contractual obligation – another piece of product that brings them one step closer to fulfilling their contract. However, Fiction Plane is among those rare artists who go above and beyond, offering something more than a piece of plastic and metal. They treat the live recording like a living document; an event to be relived and remembered.

Drummer Wilhoit says of the release, “We hope fans get a sense of how we really are as a band, because we are so much more than an ‘album band’. You’ve got Joe jumping off everything in sight, and Seton playing guitar behind his head. We’re seizing the moment in a live show. This is a statement of who we are.”

PARADISO will initially be distributed to retailers in France, Belgium and The Netherlands. Fans outside those territories will be able to purchase the release through Fiction Plane’s official web store and at the band’s live shows.

With new performance dates already being confirmed and a new studio album slated for release later this year, the book of Fiction Plane is just beginning!
